TONAWANDA, N.Y. (WBEN) - Commuters used to seeing the American flag flying outside Gander Outdoors in Tonawanda haven't seen the flag for the last week.

The high winds forced the store's management to take down the flag, but it hasn't flown again since the wind storm. The flag is a staple for commuters along I-290 in both directions.

"I'm used to hearing it flap," one man we spoke with said in the parking lot said. "It would very seldomly hang like there was no wind. You could hear it. It's strange looking up and not seeing it."

There is also a sign in the plaza that is visible from I-290 with clear damage from the winds.

We have reached out to Gander Outdoors for comment and are awaiting a response.
