Woman injured in BPD officer-involved shooting

Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - A 31-year old woman sustained a non-life threatening gunshot wound to her hand Friday evening after a Buffalo Police officer discharged his service weapon while attempting to take the woman into custody.

Police were responding to a stolen vehicle call in the Broadway, Gatchell area of the city at the time of the incident.

Buffalo Police Captain Jeffrey Rinaldo says the officer was flagged-down on Armbruster Street and attempted to stop the stolen vehicle when a struggle resulted.  "Some type of altercation ensued and the officer did fire his service weapon", said Rinaldo.

Following the struggle, the vehicle fled the scene at a high rate of speed for less than a block when the pursuit ended and the suspect was taken into custody without further incident.

"She is succrently at ECMC being treated for her injuries and the officer is uninjured", said Rinaldo. 

Buffalo Police internal affairs, homicide and accident investigation units are investigating the incident.
