'A Quiet Place Part II' finally premiering Thursday

BUFFALO (WBEN) - After four postponements and more than an entire year of delay, local theaters are finally ready to show the premiere of "A Quiet Place Part II" on Thursday.

"The excitement level is sky high," said Ray Barker, program director of the North Park Theater. The theater is holding two advanced preview shows Thursday at 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m, and then the full run of the movie will begin Friday.

"This is a film that was supported by the Buffalo Niagara Film Commission and was filmed in many Western New York locations, including Grand Island, Niagara County and Erie County, so there's a lot of local things to see in the film," Barker continued.

Of the local things to see in the film is the talent. Caleb Derfert is an 8th grader at West Middle School in West Seneca, and he got the opportunity to be an extra.

It just so happens that Caleb is a huge movie fan, especially of the horror genre.

"I saw the first movie, and I loved it," said Derfert, ranking the film in his top-10. "This opportunity was just perfect."

Regarding the experience, Derfert said it "was really fun and interesting," noting that it was a laid back atmosphere - not what he thought it would be like.

But what really struck Derfert was the fact that a major motion picture was being constructed right in his backyard, not 3,000 miles away.

It was something odd," he began. "You never expect it to be somewhere here - you expect it to be Hollywood or somewhere - not something you can just go to every day."

As far as tickets for the advanced preview shows at North Park, Barker says there are still tickets available for both viewings, and those tickets DO NOT need to be bought in advance, as they can simply be bought at the box office.

"The current New York State maximum is currently 250 people, and I think that first 7 p.m. show, we'll have a full house," said Barker.
