Bills will travel to Jacksonville to face Jaguars in AFC Wild Card Round

Buffalo has had a rough recent history facing the Jaguars in Jacksonville

Orchard Park, N.Y. (WGR Sports Radio 550/WBEN) - After defeating the New York Jets on Sunday and locking into the 6-seed in the AFC Playoff picture, the Buffalo Bills are set for another playoff matchup with the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday afternoon at EverBank Stadium.

Despite finishing the 2025 season with a 12-5 record, the Bills failed to secure a sixth-straight AFC East title, losing out to the New England Patriots, who capped off their year with an impressive 14-3 record after going 4-13 the year before.

The Bills return to Jacksonville for the first time since 2021, where Buffalo laid an egg against a Jaguars team that finished their season 3-14 under head coach Urban Meyer, who was fired after going 2-11 to start the season. That day saw quarterback Josh Allen struggle mightily, going 31-of-47 for 264 yards, getting sacked four times and coughing up the ball three times (two interceptions and a fumble).

In fact, the Bills haven't won a game in Jacksonville since the 2013 campaign when Buffalo beat the Jaguars, 27-20, in a late-season game that had little implications for either team.

The Bills did, however, beat the Jaguars in their last matchup, which came at the start of the 2024 season in a 47-10 throttling at Highmark Stadium. That game saw Allen having a monster day for Buffalo, going 23-of-30 for 263 yards and four touchdown passes, leading to an AFC Offensive Player of the Week honor from the NFL.

In the all-time series between the Bills and Jaguars, including playoffs, the record is even at 10-10. However, when it comes to the playoffs, the Jaguars have Buffalo's number with a pair of victories.

The most recent playoff victory for Jacksonville came back in 2017 when the Jaguars downed the visiting Bills, 10-3, in Sean McDermott's first playoff game as head coach. Since that game, though, the Bills have gone 7-6 in the playoffs under McDermott.

The first playoff matchup between the two franchises came in their first-ever matchup in the 1996 AFC Wild Card Round, with the Jaguars coming to Western New York and stunning the Bills, 30-27. As it turned out, that contest ended up being the final game of Jim Kelly's Hall of Fame career with the Bills, where he exited the game early due to a concussion.

In the all-time games played in Jacksonville (excluding international games in London) between the two clubs, the teams are a dead-even 4-4.

Kickoff between the Bills and Jaguars on Sunday is slated for 1 p.m. on the official voice of the Bills - WGR Sports Radio 550.
