Buffalo, N.Y. (WGR 550/WBEN) - The Buffalo Bills will now have a huge hole to fill at middle linebacker, as multiple reports indicate free agent Tremaine Edmunds is set to sign with the Chicago Bears once NFL Free Agency opens at 4 p.m. ET on Wednesday.
According to NFL Network insider, the Bears will be giving Edmunds a four-year contract worth up to $72 million, with $50 million of the money guaranteed.
Edmunds was a first-round pick (16th overall) of the Bills in the 2018 NFL Draft, and has been a staple of the Buffalo defense since being drafted. In 74 career games with the Bills over five seasons, Edmunds totaled 565 total tackles, 32 tackles for loss, 6.5 sacks, 18 quarterback hits, five interceptions and two forced fumbles.
The 24-year-old was also named to two Pro Bowls in back-to-back years in 2019 and 2020.
Edmunds' deal with Chicago cannot be made official until the new league year, along with free agency, kicks off at 4 p.m. ET on Wednesday.
