The Buffalo Sabres scored the first and last goals of regulation, but still ended 60-minutes tied with the Boston Bruins. After a scoreless overtime, it was the home Bruins ending things in a shootout in two rounds inside TD Garden to beat the Sabres by a final score of 3-2.
The Sabres opened the scoring less than two minutes into the night, when Colin Miller's point shot got in behind Jeremy Swayman. It was Miller's fourth goal of the season, and assisting on the play was newest Buffalo Sabre Anders Bjork.
The Bruins tied things up later in the first period when veteran center David Krejci deposited a rebound past Dustin Tokarski. Tokarski was thrust into action after starter Linus Ullmark exited just minutes into the game. Ullmark was slow to get up after making a save, and would not return.
Boston took their first lead of the night five-and-a-half minutes into the second period, when forward Craig Smith's ninth goal of the campaign beat Tokarski from the right circle.
With about 12-minutes gone in the final period of regulation, Rasmus Dahlin gave himself a fantastic 21st-birthday present. The defenseman's slick moves and eventual slapshot evened the score at two goals apiece.
Dahlin's fourth goal of the season capped the scoring in regulation, as the teams headed to overtime having still solved nothing.
Neither team scored in the extra frame, but Boston did twice in the shootout. It only took two rounds to settle things. Victor Olofsson and Tage Thompson were stopped, while Bruins Charlie Coyle and Jake DeBrusk
