Orchard Park, N.Y. (WGR 550/WBEN) - Despite a statement win for AFC East supremacy on Sunday over the Miami Dolphins in Orchard Park, the Buffalo Bills may be fearing for the worst with veteran cornerback Tre'Davious White.
Late in the third quarter of Buffalo's 48-20 win over the Dolphins, White was defending a fourth down pass play against Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill. While staying with Hill on his route, White ended up coming up lame on his right foot and went down to the field.
White stayed down on the field for a considerable amount of time in pain, and even threw his helmet behind him. After trying to get up and walk, White went back down to the field as his teammates huddled around him.
Eventually, the cart rolled out on the field for the 28-year-old veteran and took him off the field and to the Buffalo dressing room.
After the win, Bills head coach Sean McDermott said team staff was "still evaluating" White, but acknowledged it was tough to see the veteran in that much pain on the field following the injury.
White battled back in the offseason to get to 100% heading into the 2023 campaign after suffering a torn ACL in his knee in 2021. He was able to return during the 2022 season for eight games played, but wasn't quite at full strength upon his return.
In his three games played prior to Sunday's contest, the 2017 first-round pick registered nine total tackles, a tackle for loss, and an interception. Before exiting Sunday's contest, White had registered three total tackles, a quarterback hit and a pass defended.
With White potentially missing a significant amount of time, that opens the door for 2022 first-round pick Kaiir Elam to return to the lineup after being a healthy scratch for the first four games of the year.
Earlier in Sunday's game, cornerback Christian Benford went down to the field with, what appeared to be, a right arm/shoulder injury after attempting to make a tackle. However, he was able to later return to the game.
The Bills will next head to London, England to take on the 2-2 Jacksonville Jaguars at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for a 9:30 a.m. ET kickoff.
