Munich, Germany (WBEN) - "It's an honor. Probably my proudest moment of my life. It means a lot to me. It's a big responsibility but I am ready for it, super excited," said a humbled Rasmus Dahlin after being selected as team captain on Thursday.

Dahlin will wear the "C" on his sweater for the first time Friday when the Sabres play an exhibition game against the EHC Red Bull München in the 2024 NHL Global Series Challenge in Munich, Germany.

The 24-year-old Dahlin, a native of Sweden, succeeds Kyle Okposo, who was Buffalo's previous captain until he was traded to the Florida Panthers last season.

"I've seen a lot. I feel like I have the experience now and I have a lot to bring," explained Dahlin, who added, "as leader, I have to work the hardest to put pressure on the guys. I'm not a very good speaker, but I like to show it in my work ethic."

Dahlin has since played in three NHL All-Star games, and played in 436 NHL games. In his six-year career, Dahlin has scored 66 goals and added 226 assists for 292 points, ranking 11th amongst active NHL defensemen.

The Sabres also announced forwards Alex Tuch, Tage Thompson, Dylan Cozens, and defenseman Mattias Samuelsson will serve as alternate captains on a rotating basis.
