Buffalo, N.Y. (WGR 550) - The Sabres got back in the win column with a 4-2 victory over the Metropolitan Division leading Carolina Hurricanes at KeyBank Center Tuesday night. Victor Olofsson would net the game winner in the third and Craig Anderson would make 32 saves in the win.
Each team would get a chance on the power play in the first but both teams would fail to convert. The Hurricanes though would break into the goal column late in the period as Jesper Fast got in alone on Craig Anderson giving Carolina the 1-0 lead heading into the first intermission.
The Sabres got on the board early in the second as Tage Thompson fed Jeff Skinner on a 2 on 1, Skinner would put home his 29th goal of the season tying the game 1-1.
Just minutes later the Sabres took the lead as Casey Mittelstadt snapped one far side past Freddie Andersen making it 2-1 with 14:01 left in the second.
Carolina would tie the game up early in the third as Nino Niederreiter put home his 22nd of the season.
The Sabres would take the lead back again as Rasmus Dahlin would make a great play along the blue line knocking the puck out of the air, then finding Victor Olofsson all alone behind the defense. Olofsson would rip it past Andersen making it 3-2.
Just moments later Ian Cole took a hooking penalty and the Sabres would take advantage on the power play. Dylan Cozens extended the lead to 4-2 with just 4:49 left in regulation.
The Sabres would fend off a late surge from the Hurricanes hanging on for the 4-2 victory. Craig Anderson would finish with 32 saves in the win and be named first star of the game.
