Buffalo, NY (WGR 550/WBEN) – Buffalo Sabres general manager Jarmo Kekalainen has made his first move as GM and it’s in the front office. Kekalainen has fired associate general manager Jason Karmanos. Karmanos was also the GM of the Rochester Americans.

Kevyn Adams hired Karmanos in April of 2021 and he served as the only experienced sounding board in the hockey department. Karmanos came to Buffalo after spending six years with the Pittsburgh Penguins, three of which were as assistant general manager.

Kekalainen had short written statement,

“Buffalo Sabres Associate General Manager/Rochester Americans General Manager Jason Karmanos has been relieved of his duties. We thank Jason for his contributions to the Buffalo Sabres and Rochester Americans and wish him the best in his future endeavors.”

The Sabres host the New York Islanders on Saturday with pregame starting at 4:00. You’ll hear from Lindy Ruff, starting goalie Alex Lyon and Michael Kesselring.
