BUFFALO (WBEN) - The Super Bowl is now less than one month away, and the Bills are still very much in the thick of the race, as they play host to the Baltimore Ravens in Divisional Round of the NFL Playoffs Saturday night.
For many fans, thinking ahead to a trip to Tampa may be seen as a jinx or bad sports karma, especially since the Bills are still two wins away, but Elizabeth Carey of AAA believes there's already a decent amount of interest from Western New Yorkers.
"We've definitely noticed that airfare from Buffalo to Tampa is selling out in some cases for people who must be going down to the Super Bowl because those flights are getting scooped up at a time when air travel is still very, very light," said Carey. "We know people are interested in that Super Bowl weekend."
However, she also noted that AAA hasn't received many travel package requests from people who are interested in the trip.
"I think a lot of people are kind of holding on to the flights, hoping they'll maybe get tickets, and then they'll determine if they should go," she said.
Speaking of Super Bowl tickets, certainly this year more than ever, they are going to be a HOT commodity. According to NFL On Location Experiences, ticket prices are starting at $5,100 a piece, and when you go to a secondary market source like Ticketmaster, prices start closer to the $6,000 mark.
Of course, prices to the actual game won't be the only tickets that will be jacked up. Carey said Western New Yorkers who are looking to buy airfare to Tampa will have to pay a pretty penny.
"If you take a look at a regular day going to Florida, you can go for $250 round trip easily, and probably even less," Carey began. "But if you're looking at Super Bowl weekend, like you're leaving on that Friday and you're coming back on Monday, you're looking at prices that are going for probably $300 to $400 each way, and some flights are already sold out..."
