Lockport, N.Y. (WBEN) - Projected growth and increased customer demands are fueling a proposed $2.5 million expansion by Buffalo Transformer Services.

The Lockport firm, which specializes in maintaining and repairing industrial transformers, is looking to - potentially- buy the Simmonds Street where it has its headquarters and grow its operations.

"This is a classic case of helping a homegrown company move forward," said Andrea Klyczek, Niagara County Industrial Development Agency executive director.

The county IDA is working with Buffalo Transformer on a series of tax breaks that could help finance its expansion plans.

"There are ripple effects when we help a company like this," Klyczek said.

According to documents filed with NCIDA, Buffalo Transformer said building acquisition costs are estimated at $1.1 million and $1.5 million in new equipment and construction costs.

The NCIDA directors are expected to vote on the tax break package - totaling $82,300 in sales and mortgage recording breaks and a 15-year PILOT - when they meet on Nov. 12.
