UB has received a four-year, $1.4 million grant from the National Institutes of Health to develop a new, portable breast-imaging system that has the potential to better identify breast cancer. The dual scan mammoscope combines light and ultrasound technology to better screen patients with dense breast tissue.

Buffalo General Medical Center/Gates Vascular Institute has become the first hospital in Western New York, and among a few select hospitals in the country, to offer and successfully implant the new FDA-approved WATCHMAN FLX™ Left Atrial Appendage Closure device.  The catheter-delivered heart insert, is shown to reduce the risk of stroke in patients who require an alternative to long-term blood thinners.


The TSA is using two state-of-the-art advanced technology computed tomography checkpoint scanners at Buffalo Niagara International Airport.  The technology is providing improved security threat detection at the checkpoint as well as reducing the need for pulling aside bags to be opened, thus reducing a touchpoint for agents.
