BUFFALO (WBEN) - Mayor Byron Brown and Councilman Chris Scanlon announced the beginning of a multi-phase construction project on Abbott Road, starting with the stretch between Southside Parkway and Meriden Street.
The scope of work includes the milling of existing pavement and new asphalt, complete replacement of sidewalks, curbs and underdrains, and new curb ramps and drainage improvements. The city will also install an LED street lighting system, along with streetscape amenities.
"This $3.9 million project is the first major makeover Abbott Road has seen in decades," said Brown. "This overhaul of Abbott Road includes improvements that will benefit motorists, pedestrians, residents and businesses. This is just the first phase of a complete upgrade of this key South Buffalo corridor."
Work is starting on the west side of Abbott Road at Southside Parkway. Crews will be removing the light poles on one side of the road this week and will begin removal of the curb and sidewalk next week.
The new curb and sidewalk will be installed shortly after removal and work will continue in that fashion all the way to Meriden Street. before flipping to the east side of the street.
