BUFFALO (WBEN) - As the region braces for some serious winter weather, the City of Buffalo says it's prepared to handle fallout of the heavy wind and a blast of snow, according to Buffalo Public Works Commissioner Mike Finn.
"There's significant wind gusts of over 50 miles per hour today within the City of Buffalo," said Finn. "That's forecasted to last the entire day Friday, and it will drop a little bit on Saturday - gusts are forecasted to be in the 30-40 mph range, but there will still be significant winds Saturday."
To handle the effects of the wind, Finn said the city's forestry crews started preparing Thursday and are ready Friday for any tree impacts. For fallen trees that could cause immediate danger, Finn urges residents to call 911. For other tree-related incidents, he asks people utilize the city's 311 line.
As for the snow, lake effect can be rather unpredictable, so Finn noted that they have to keep monitoring the situation and react accordingly.
"The key for Buffalo is where that lake effect band settles tomorrow in relation to the City of Buffalo," said Finn. "Is it going to be across a good chunk of the city of just a portion, or even go completely south of the city?"
