BUFFALO (WBEN) - Erie County's "Shot and a Chaser" vaccination program begins Saturday at Resurgence Brewing Co. Essentially, the program incentivizes residents to get a vaccine by offering a free drink.

Saturday's pop-up clinic at Resurgence (55 Chicago St.) marks the first of the program, running from 11 a.m to 6 p.m. However, people must first register online.

"You get vaccinated on site at Resurgence Brewing; we will give you something to present inside, and you'll be able to get a free drink at Resurgence," said Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz. "It's the same thing with Flying Bison - we will give you a pint with our Erie County (EC200) bicentennial logo on it, and you'll be able to get a free drink at Flying Bison."

The Flying Bison pop-up clinic will take place May 12 from 2 p.m. to 7:45 p.m., and you must register online for the that program as well.

"We believe we can support our local brewers, who have had a tough year in the last year, as well as get more people vaccinated," Poloncarz added. "We understand our constituents, and we know especially with out younger constituents sometimes they need a little incentive. There's nothing that prohibits this - the federal government does allow providing a keepsake or some other type of initiative."

Breweries who would like to participate can call (716) 858-2827 or by email at jason.hurley@erie.gov to sign up.
