Action figures and bobbleheads are yesterday’s news for the nation’s top infectious disease expert, who’s due for a tribute in a new children’s picture book scheduled for release this summer.
Publishing company Simon & Schuster announced Sunday the upcoming release of "Dr. Fauci: How a Boy From Brooklyn Became America’s Doctor."
The 48-page, hardcover book chronicles the life and career of Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and the central figure in the country’s fight against the COVID-19 crisis.
"Before he was Dr. Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, Anthony Fauci was a curious boy in Brooklyn, delivering prescriptions from his father’s pharmacy on his blue Schwinn bicycle," a description of the children’s book said. "His father and immigrant grandfather taught Anthony to ask questions, consider all the data, and never give up - and Anthony’s ability to stay curious and to communicate with people would serve him his entire life."
It also includes "a full spread of facts about vaccines and how they work and Dr. Fauci’s own tips for future scientists."
The story is taken from interviews between Dr. Fauci and its author, Kate Messner. Alexandra Bye, a freelance illustrator, did the book’s artwork. A spokesperson for Simon & Schuster told CNN the book was written with Dr. Fauci’s permission and he and his team were consulted throughout the process.
"Dr. Fauci: How a Boy From Brooklyn Became America’s Doctor" is due on bookshelves on June 29.
