BUFFALO (WBEN) - Elmwood Village residents are expressing concern about an uptick crime in the area, especially over the past month or so.
Kevin Barry is a landlord in the Elmwood Village, and he recently wrote a letter to neighbors citing his concern about a stabbing that took place earlier this week near Elmwood and W. Ferry during early afternoon hours.
"There's been an uptick of general crime, both car burglaries, house invasions, there was a holdup in the neighborhood, and now this stabbing midday," said Barry. "People need to be aware of what's going on in their neighborhood."
Buffalo Police Captain Jeff Rinaldo said the stabbing appears to have been a random act and that detectives are working to track down some video in an attempt to develop a suspect in that case.
As far as the uptick in crime, Rinaldo noted that city officials, including Mayor Byron Brown, met with Elmwood Village Association representatives last week to address some of their concerns.
"We have increased our patrols in that area, and we are also in the process of working collaboratively with the business owners and our SafeCam Program to pull video in an attempt to identify some of the people that are responsible for these crimes," said Rinaldo.
