HoganWillig filing lawsuit to get kids back into schools

Remote Learning

BUFFALO (WBEN) - The law firm that's been the lead representation for several shutdown-related lawsuits, most notably representing more than 90 restaurants and bars to overturn indoor dining restrictions, is now representing local parents who want their kids back in school.

"I understand that certain teachers are in the vulnerable population, and maybe they shouldn't go back to school, but you cannot punish all these kids and do all this damage any longer," said attorney Corey Hogan with HoganWillig, who joined Tom Bauerle live Friday afternoon. "The (former)CDC director, Dr. (Robert) Redfield, has said that the increase in children suicide and drug-related deaths has now exceeded the number of COVID-related deaths for kids."

Hogan said he was on a Zoom call with about 100 parents Thursday evening from a number of local districts, including Grand Island, Clarence, Williamsville, and Lew-Port.

"We're going to get these kids back into public schools," Hogan continued. "The evidence is overwhelming that there's no danger to teachers - there has not been a single case of viral transmission from a student to a teacher that has resulted in a teacher's death anywhere that we can find in this country, and maybe even in the world."

According to Hogan, the lawsuit will likely be filed against the board of education and/or superintendent of each district, the teachers union for each district, as well as the New York State Department of Health/State of New York.
