BUFFALO, N.Y. (WBEN) - Fourteen people who were unvaccinated and attempted to enter Highmark Stadium on Sunday were turned away following a secondary check by the health department, according to Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz.

There were 666 spot checks conducted Sunday. There were 91 calls to nurses to confirm a person's vaccination status.

"The sheriff's office had to assist us on 3 of the 14," Poloncarz said. "If it's a false document (they could face a penalty). I don't know if someone tried to come in with a fake card."

Poloncarz announced last month a vaccine requirement to enter Highmark Stadium or KeyBank Center. Children under age 12, who are not eligible to be vaccinated, may enter the stadium but must wear a mask throughout the game.

Five people were turned away last week for trying to enter a Bills game.
