Niagara Falls, N.Y. (WBEN) - A 14-year-old boy was behind the wheel of a stolen Kia that crashed into a telephone pole in Niagara Falls on Thursday at around 9 p.m.
Police tried to pull over the vehicle, a 2020 Kia Sportage, on Niagara Street, though the driver refused to stop. Police say they observed the vehicle violating several traffic laws.
As the driver approached Portage Road, they struck a telephone pole on the corner of Osborne Court before spinning and rolling head-on into a police car.
A 14-year-old girl was thrown from the vehicle upon impact. She was taken to Oishei Children's Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The boy was taken to Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center with no apparent injuries.
Police say the owner reported the vehicle as stolen.
The Niagara Falls Police Crash Investigation Unit is investigating the crash, while the Juvenile Division is following up on any criminal charges.
It's the second crash within the last month involving a teenage driver. Just two weeks ago on Oct. 24, a 54-year-old woman was killed in Cheektowaga near the Kensington Expressway after being struck by a vehicle driven by a 15-year-old.
