Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - A donation that will provide some joy and fun for kids and staffers of Buffalo Public Schools this winter season.

The Rich Family Foundation and Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield of WNY announced on Wednesday a donation of over 46,000 admission and skate rental tickets for the Ice at Canalside this winter season to Buffalo Public School students, faculty and staff.

The free tickets represent a $50,000 value, and will be distributed throughout the district. Passholders can redeem them anytime throughout the 2024-2025 season at Ice at Canalside.

Students from Public School 32 - Bennett Park Montessori - and Public School 6 - Buffalo Elementary School of Technology - took a short field trip Wednesday morning for some midday fun on the ice.

"A day of winter fun skating at Canalside is a great way for Buffalo Public Schools students and others to create enduring memories in addition to spending time with friends and family," said Buffalo Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Tonja Williams Knight. "During the season of giving, on behalf of the entire Buffalo Public Schools community and the Buffalo Board of Education, I want to personally thank the Rich Family Foundation and Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield for their generous donation of tens of thousands of free skating and rental tickets to the ice rink at Canalside."
