The Memorial Day weekend across the Buffalo-Niagara region will kickoff with a Saturday soaker and cooler than average temperatures, before some drier and milder weather moves into Western New York Sunday and Monday.

"Unfortunately rain is going to move into Western New York beginning Saturday morning, and last through most of the day," National Weather Service meteorologist Heather Kenyon tells WBEN. "It's going to be a widespread, soaking rain, and the rain will taper off Saturday evening, then it will just turn 'showery' through Sunday morning."

Most areas will get between a half inch to an inch of rainfall, with some spots getting more than an inch of rainfall.

Following the soaking Saturday, some breaks in the rainfall will be possible Saturday evening, before a drier period takes hold beginning Sunday.

"It looks like, for most of the day Sunday, is going to be dry, just some showers in the morning, and then Memorial Day is actually looking drier, except the southern tier could see some showers," Kenyon notes.

The holiday weekend kicks off with cooler temperatures in the 50's Saturday, but some improvement follows that.

"The silver lining is that although Saturday is going to be cool in the 50's, temperatures will be increasing Sunday and Monday," Kenyon says. "We will likely see the mid 70's on Memorial Day."
