Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - A judge's ruling last week may open the door for the city to take over the Buffalo Grand Hotel downtown.

Judge Diane Devlin ruled Thursday that the long vacant 2 Saint Louis Place building in Allentown has been abandoned. The ruling opens the door for the city to take over the property, and take action against property owner Chuck Dobucki.

The building may be taken over by the city using the same process they have initiated against the Buffalo Grand Hotel, formerly the Adam's Mark hotel in Downtown Buffalo.

The city is utilizing the Real Property Actions and Proceedings Law to obtain the title of both buildings. Filing a certificate of abandonment is the first step in the process.

"Now that the city got their act together, knows how to do these abandonment proceedings, and did get a favorable outcome, the kinks are starting to get worked out on how to apply this," said Fillmore District Councilman Mitch Nowakowski with WBEN on Tuesday.

Nowakowski believes a judge will be assigned to the Buffalo Grand Hotel case soon.

2 Saint Louis Place had been described a blight on the community, and received increased attention earlier this year after the murder of two well-known LGBTQ+ activists.

Dobucki had been arrested back in April on housing code violations. Nowakowski tells WBEN he expects the city to have the title to 2 St. Louis Place within 30-45 days.
