Amherst, N.Y. (WBEN) - A survey conducted by over 1,300 residents will be presented at the Amherst Town Board Meeting on Tuesday.

Bill Blake, who represents the group Amherst Concerned Citizens, says they wanted to launch this survey as a way to give people a voice.

"Typically, what you'll see is is people come up into the board meeting and they come up and they spend three minutes and some people talk, some people yell and so forth, but nothing really ever gets accomplished that way," Blake stated in an interview with WBEN. "We felt if we put together a survey with questions created by a bipartisan group of residents, and put it out there for a 90 day period that people would feel free to voice their opinions on how things are being done."

Although the survey addresses concerns that residents have about the town, Blake says it's meant to be learning tool and a benchmark for another survey they're going to recommend to get done within the next 60 days.

"When it comes to who is, who the town board represents, people have the choice of saying residents and businesses, or special interests and other parties. A vast majority of them said special interest," Blake said. "They don't feel that their tax dollars are being invested wisely and in areas where they felt it needs they need to be invested. So they're going to hear this and they're going to react, probably negatively, but it is what it is."
