Amherst, N.Y. (WBEN) - An Amherst man has been arrested and charged after leading police on a chase through Cheektowaga and Amherst Tuesday night.
Amherst Police received an alert from Cheektowaga Police around 8pm Tuesday about a vehicle pursuit on Eggert Road.
Officers in Amherst joined the pursuit once the driver, 37-year-old Edward Van Delden Jr., crossed into the Town of Amherst.
Van Delden Jr. refused to stop, with Amherst Police saying he drove recklessly until stopping and abandoning the vehicle on Grover Cleveland Highway. Van Delden Jr. fled on foot but was quickly arrested.
The Erie County Sheriff's Air 1 helicopter helped track the vehicle.
Van Delden Jr. is charged with the following:
- 2nd degree Reckless Endangerment
- 3rd degree Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle
- Resisting Arrest
- 2nd degree Obstructing Governmental Administration
- Numerous vehicle and traffic law violations.
