Tonawanda, N.Y. (WBEN) - 32-year-old Andee Wright from Amherst has been found guilty by a jury in the murder of her newborn child.

During the early morning hours of Monday, Oct. 5, 2020, Wright gave birth to the child inside of a bathroom at a residence on Eggert Road in the Town of Tonawanda. Wright did not call 9-1-1 afterwards, and was transported to the hospital by ambulance after her boyfriend found her in distress.

A paramedic on the scene found the newborn inside a garbage can in the basement of the home with head wounds. The official cause of death for the child was ruled as a traumatic brain injury caused by blunt force trauma.

"This is a disturbing case of a woman who concealed her pregnancy. and killed her own newborn baby. While this was a challenging case, we were committed to obtaining justice in the death of Baby Boy Wright," said Acting Erie County District Attorney Michael Keane in a statement. "The evidence showed that the baby was born alive, and the jury agreed the defendant intentionally murdered of her own newborn son."

Wright faces 25 years-to-life in prison. She's being held without bail until her sentencing on Sept. 9.
