Amherst, N.Y. (WBEN) - Amherst Police continues its investigation into the homicide of a 27-year-old woman, who was found Tuesday at a motel on the 1900 block of Niagara Falls Boulevard.

Police have identified the victim as Emmeya Sims of Amherst, who was residing at the location of the homicide.

Sims' cause of death has not been released, and police stated they were initially called to the motel for a medical emergency.

A suspect has been identified as 37-year-old Daniel Negron of Buffalo. He is currently being held in Erie, Pa. on unrelated charges.

According to Erie News Now, Negron was arrested at a local church after he threatened to kill himself with a knife during a Mass later in the day. Officers were able to evacuate the church, and eventually subdue Negron after he failed to drop the knife and pleaded for officers to kill him.

Police say Negron hitchhiked his way to Erie from Buffalo after the incident at the Amherst motel.

Negron does have a past criminal history, as he was sentenced to 15 years in prison back in 2009 after he pleaded guilty to trying to kill a former girlfriend with a machete, hammer and scissors. The victim of the attack in October 2008 suffered facial injuries, a punctured lung and broken ribs.

At this time, the Amherst Police Department, along with the Erie County District Attorney’s Office in New York are working with authorities in Erie County, Pa.
