Amherst, N.Y. (WBEN) - A local teacher is awaiting extradition to Fairfax, Virginia, in connection with child exploitation charges.
New York State Police, in collaboration with the Virginia Police Department, arrested 45-year-old Geoffrey Testa on Friday, Jan. 31. Testa is a teacher at Amherst Central High School.
Testa is facing multiple felony charges involving sex crimes against children. He is being held at the Erie County Holding Center while he waits for extradition.
New York State Police spokesperson Trooper James O'Callaghan joined WBEN's David Bellavia on Wednesday. O'Callaghan wants to send a message to warn parents about rising cases of cyber crimes against children.
Police say the Amherst Central School District is cooperating with the investigation.
The NYS Police worked with the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force on this case. The program helps state and local law enforcement agencies across the country develop an effective response to technology-facilitated child sexual exploitation and Internet crimes against children.
