Amherst, N.Y. (WBEN) - University at Buffalo police are looking for three suspects in a reported armed robbery that happened early Thursday morning near the university's Creekside Village Apartments.
Police say two UB students were approached by three men with, what appeared to be, handguns. One of the students was punched in the head and had their phone and wallet stolen. The other student's jacket was taken.
The suspects were said to be three Black males, one wearing a black Nike sweatsuit and burgundy shoes, a second wearing a black Nike sweatsuit and black shoes, and the third wearing a grey sweatsuit and black shoes.
Investigators have concluded that the robbery was targeted in nature and not a random act of violence.
"I want to assure the UB community that our campuses are safe — new evidence has led us to the conclusion that Thursday morning's armed robbery was clearly a targeted incident and there is no residual danger to our students, faculty and staff," said UB Chief of Police Kim Beaty. "Although we are unable to release further details as we continue our investigation, I felt it prudent to share this update and make clear there is no on-going threat to our community."
As a precaution, UB Police will continue increased patrols near Creekside Village and the Ellicott Complex through the weekend.
All three were wearing ski masks.
UB Police say they have increased patrols in the area.
