Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - A Cheektowaga man has been charged with murder in connection with a shooting last October that was over a parking space, according to prosecutors.
44-year-old Richard Walls was arraigned Thursday afternoon before State Supreme Court Justice M. William Boller on a second degree murder charge.
Prosecutors say on Oct. 12, 2024, Cheektowaga Police responded to the 100 block of Cedar Road for a reported shooting. Officers attempted to perform life-saving measures before 20-year-old Md Rawnaq Hassan Ratin was taken by ambulance to Erie County Medical Center.
Ratin, was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Walls is accused of intentionally shooting the victim in the chest with a handgun during a dispute over parking on the street.
The defendant was held without bail, and a return court date has not been scheduled at this time.
If convicted of the charge, the defendant faces a maximum sentence of 25 years to life in prison.
