Orchard Park, N.Y. (WGR Sports Radio 550/WBEN) - For the first time since construction began on the new Highmark Stadium along Abbott Road in Orchard Park, the state-of-the-art facility is starting to show its true colors.
The Bills revealed on social media on Wednesday that construction crews at the stadium have begun installing the new grass playing surface with the first rounds of sod.
In recent weeks, crews at the new Highmark Stadium have been laying the groundwork for the new playing surface, installing the warming system that will sit below the field when the facility opens this coming July.
With that now in place, the team has officially started installing the natural grass playing surface, which will replace the A-Turf Titan 50 surface at the current stadium across the street.
In addition to the new playing surface installation, the team has also installed a large portion of seats within the lower bowl of the stadium. The new red and blue seats will be in a gradient pattern within the lower portion of the stadium.
