Orchard Park, N.Y. (WBEN) - Sunday is set to feature the 10th matchup between the Buffalo Bills and Kansas City Chiefs, playoffs included, over the last six seasons. In that time, the Bills are 4-1 in the regular season, but have yet to secure a win over the Chiefs in the postseason.
While facing the same team several times over a stretch of years may create some fatigue for some, many members of "Bills Mafia" welcome the seemingly annual tradition that is a Bills-Chiefs contest.
"Doesn't get any better than this. [Patrick] Mahomes and [Josh] Allen, it's an instant classic," said Jimmy traveling from Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. for Sunday's game with his brother Chris.
"It's a pretty exciting matchup. Star studded, both quarterbacks are potentially Hall of Fame quarterbacks. You can't get tired of this matchup," added Mike from Fort Erie, Ontario.
Several fans feel there's plenty at stake for the Bills with this matchup on Sunday at Highmark Stadium.
"It's not a divisional game, but beating Kansas City at home, plus we have to stay in running with the Patriots, because they're leading the division right now. So this is a crucial game for us," said Dennis from Richmond, Va.
Some fans feel this game will be a tone-setter for how the rest of the season plays out for both teams, who are trying to compete for that coveted No. 1 seed in the AFC.
"I think earlier on in the year, the Chiefs didn't have a good start, the Bills did. And then we had two losses in-a-row, and I think everyone was just wondering what's going on as the Chiefs started to warm up," Mike said.
"Especially with New England kind of creeping in the background. Everyone's going to be trying to push for that first seed, and it might be important this year. We'll see how things play out."
What do fans feel is a key for the Bills this week if they want to come away with a much-needed victory? For many fans, it's a couple of different factors.
"Good defense. I'm hoping that Cook has another good game like he did last time," said Matt from Springfield, Mo. "I would love to see Josh get more connections with receivers. It seems like the passing game is still getting back up to what it has been."
"First, the run game: Establish the run game, and it will open that passing game with Cook. The second thing is the defense needs to step it up. We've got those players we can put in, but they need to step it up," Dennis echoed. "Max Hairston needs to step up as a defensive back too for the [pass defense]. So I think it's going to be critical."
