An East Side site that was once home to a Kentucky Fried Chicken outlet and neighbored the former Sheehan Memorial Hospital is being eyed by a Boston-based firm that specializes in developing "affordable" urban housing units.
A Buffalo review is underway.
Beacon Communities Services LLC - through its BC 375 Michigan LLC development affiliate - is proposing to build a five-story, 93,472-square-foot apartment complex, anchored by 157 units.
BC 375 Michigan LLC will be investing $56 million in developing the project.
The project is slated for 375 Michigan Avenue and sits where a KFC outlet stood. The parcel is located at the southeast corner of Michigan Avenue and East Eagle Street.
BC 375 Michigan's project is the latest in a series of Buffalo developments anchored by apartments that fit into the "affordable" demographic of residents with limited amounts of annual income.
The project will include a mix of one-bedroom, two-bedroom and three-bedroom apartments ranging in size from 722-square-feet for the smallest one-bedroom unit to 1,193-square-feet for the largest three-bedroom model.
Representatives from BC 375 Michigan will be meeting with the Buffalo Planning Board on April 20. The project needs approvals from the city's planning board and Zoning Board of Appeals before construction can begin.
Pending various Buffalo approvals, construction is expected to start later this summer and take two years to complete.
