Buffalo, NY (WBEN) Students and staff at Buffalo Public Schools are being urged to take electronic devices home with them as the holiday break draws near. The district cites uncertainty over COVID.
In a letter to parents, Superintendent Kriner Cash is asking "all students and staff to take home their laptops/iPads. While no decision or timetable has been set to shift to remote instruction at this time, this will ensure the district is fully prepared for any eventuality." Cash adds the district will notify parents of any changes.
Here is the full letter:
Greetings Staff, Students and Parents:
I wish everyone a happy, healthy, and safe winter break!
Buffalo Public Schools will be closing to all (including Central Office) on Friday, December 24th, 2021. Central Office staff will report December 27th through the 30th. Central Office will be closed on December 31st. Instruction will resume on Monday, January 3rd, 2022.
Due to the uncertainty of the COVID epidemic, however, we are asking all students and staff to take home their laptops/iPads. While no decision or timetable has been set to shift to remote instruction at this time, this will ensure the district is fully prepared for any eventuality. We will, of course, be in close consultation with our Medical Advisory Team, and continue to follow all public health recommendations and best practices. We will notify you in the event of any closures.
The Center for Innovation, Technology and Training (CITT) (1515 South Park Avenue) will be open December 27th – 30th, 9AM – 2PM for any families who need assistance with student devices, or need to pick up a hot spot to be sure that their student has internet access at home. Staff service appointments are available at the CITT during this time as well.
Finally, I encourage students to stay sharp and practice important math and reading skills during the winter break by logging into Clever to access instructional applications like Zearn, IXL, Lexia, and Moby Max. For more information, please continue to check the Buffalo Public Schools website.
Respectfully,
Dr. Kriner Cash
Superintendent
