BUFFALO, N.Y. (WBEN) - Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown collected roughly 500 more votes than India Walton via absentee ballots in last week's primary, though Walton is still the presumptive democratic nominee for mayor in the November election.

Absentee ballots were counted on Wednesday.

Walton collected more than 1,500 overall votes than Mayor Brown last week. The mayor needed nearly all of the absentee ballots to sway in his favor in order to be the democratic candidate.

The primary results are still not certified by the Erie County Board of Elections and likely won't be for another two weeks, according to Commissioner Ralph Mohr.

Brown on Monday formally announced his plans to seek a fifth-term via write-in campaign. Walton called the mayor's efforts a distraction.
