Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - The Buffalo Academy of Science, also known as BuffSci, is moving into the former Medaille University campus, as first reported by Buffalo Business First.

The Charter School Network announced on Friday the sale of the 14-acre campus that was previously home to Medaille University to Charter Schools Development Corporation (CSDC), a non-profit developer of charter school facilities. BuffSci is leasing the newly-acquired campus from CSDC.

The financials of the deal are not known.

"At CSDC, we are dedicated to eliminating barriers to educational access, choice, and equity in under-resourced communities nationwide. We wholeheartedly support the vision of Buffalo Academy of Science Charter Schools and are honored to be a partner in this game-changing campus that will positively impact the community." said Mark Zeizel, Senior Vice President, Real Estate Investments and Strategy with Charter Schools Development Corporation.

Classes will begin at the campus this September.

BuffSci had previously planned to build a new high school at 239 Kensington Avenue for $24 million.

Just last month the City of Buffalo designated $1 million towards renovations of the campus. The main academic building was showing signs of wear and tear towards the end, with many classrooms having boarded windows, especially in basement level classrooms.

Trocaire College previously had plans to buy Medaille before the deal fell through.
