Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - The Catholic Diocese of Buffalo is hosting internal meetings with priests to discuss the allocation strategy to be utilized to fund the $150 million settlement reached last month.

The Diocese says the settlement is key in bringing healing to survivors, and forming a reorganization plan to get out of Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Meetings are underway with priest groups concerning how the settlement terms will be met once that is finalized.

The Diocese adds the pool of settlement funds will be derived from available funds of the Diocese, from individual parishes from their available funds, and contributions from Catholic-affiliated entities.

There will be meeting with lay leadership from all parishes to discuss progress in reaching the agreement and parish expectations.

The Diocese notes the settlement between the Committee and the Diocese, parishes, and other entities affiliated with the Diocese does not include contributions from any insurance companies that provided Diocesan or parish coverage. Settlement discussions with insurers are ongoing under the supervision of mediators appointed by the Bankruptcy Court.

The $150 million settlement was reached in April with victims of sexual abuse by clergy.
