Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) A relative of Jose Rodriguez joined WBEN Wednesday morning to provide an update on the family struggling to recover from a
fire tragedy in Buffalo on Saturday.
Jayjay Rojas, is a cousin of Jose Rodriguez, who tried to save his family from a blaze that engulfed the first and second floor of his home at 69 French Street in the Marin Luther King Park neighborhood.
Rojas has been communicating with Jose at ECMC.
"He's screaming my babies, my babies, I failed," said Rojas. "But we keep telling him he's a hero."
Rojas and his wife are caring for the 2 youngest family members that managed to escape the burning home; a 4 year old girl and a 6 year old boy.
Mom Jocelyn remains in critical condition at ECMC.
"She has no idea that two of her kids didn't make it. She keeps trying to pull out the tubes and is pointing to her 5 fingers (for her 5 kids). We're acting like we don't know what she's trying to say. We just want her to heal," he added.
The family's oldest daughter, 9 year old Ava, is at the burn unit at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.
JayJay Rojas has started a gofundme campaign for the Rodriguez family who lost everything in the fire.
