Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - Just in time for the snow season to begin, the City of Buffalo has announced their new Commissioner for the Department of Public Works, Parks, and Streets.

Nathan Marton was sworn in at the start of the Buffalo Common Council meeting on Tuesday, November 1, 2022 in Common Council Chambers, 13th floor of Buffalo City Hall by Buffalo Common Council President Darius G. Pridgen.

Buffalo Common Councilman Rasheed Wyatt says he and his fellow councilman were thorough in their interviewing process when deciding on Marton, "I think there's a lot of moving parts right now in the Public Works Department regarding ARP (American Rescue Plan) money, state funding, all these different funding streams and we have to have someone that can call and coordinate those things to make sure we get this money out the door. If we don't spend this money through ARP, we're going to lose it. I don't want to lose one dime. We need to make sure we get it out there, so that was one of the things that we've asked them to make sure that we can deliver on that, because that's a big, big issue. The other thing is just making sure that there's a process in place so that the council members are included in conversations as it relates to projects in our district. That's something that we kind of fell down on, we haven't been very well communicated with. So he's agreed to a lot of those things."

Representatives from the Department of Public Works will address and answer questions from the Council at the next Community Development Committee meeting on Wednesday, November 9, 2022 at 1:00PM when the 2022-2023 City of Buffalo Snow Plan will be discussed.

More on the snow plan will be made available on our website on Wednesday, Nov. 2nd.
