Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - A 30-year-old Buffalo man faces additional charges in connection with a fatal house fire on Norwood Avenue. Prosecutors say Kidane Haile is accused of killing his 29-year-old girlfriend, Katie Carrig, and their 4-day-old son, Noah, on Saturday, Oct. 18.

Haile now faces three charges:

- One count of Murder in the First Degree (intentionally causing the deaths of two people)
- Two counts of Murder in the Second Degree murder
- One count of Arson in the Third Degree

If convicted of first-degree murder - the most serious charge - Haile faces a maximum sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Erie County District Attorney Michael Keane says the investigation determined Haile intentionally killed Carrig by strangulation, then set the residence on fire using gasoline. Investigators also concluded that Noah Carrig’s death was a homicide, though Keane declined to provide additional details.

Haile is scheduled to return to court in December.
