Buffalo man found guilty of murdering infant son

Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - A Buffalo father was found guilty Tuesday afternoon of murdering his 3-month-old son in May of 2025.

Police and paramedics responded to a home on the 300 block of Tonawanda Street in Buffalo Friday, May 23 of last year for a report of an unresponsive infant.


According to the Erie County District Attorney's Office, 28-year-old Elijha Rogers of Buffalo "recklessly engaged in conduct that resulted in the death of his infant son."

Rogers inflicted numerous injuries to the boy, including head trauma, a spinal injury and a fractured rib. The victim, Kanai James Cureton, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Rogers would "continue to observe the unresponsive infant for approximately eight hours without seeking any help or medical assistance," according to information sent out by the DA's office.

Rogers faces 25 years to life in prison. He's set to be sentenced Monday, December 14, 2026. He is being held without bail.
