BUFFALO, N.Y. (WBEN) - The Buffalo Marathon will return this summer on June 26 and 27, Governor Andrew Cuomo announced Thursday.
The marathon marks the return of one of Buffalo's biggest annual events.
"I'm over the moon," Race Director Greg Weber said. "We've put a lot of work into this."
The race will operate at 50% capacity and accommodate 3,600 people rather than 8,000. June 26 will feature one 5k race while the second day will include two half marathons and the full marathon.
Each race will be broken up into groups of 200 runners to align with the state's outdoor social gathering limit. Participants will be required to wear a mask before and after the race, but not during the race itself.
"For the most part it's the same route," Weber said. "We've made a couple adjustments because of the new construction in the park."
Runners will not be required to have a vaccine but still have to fill out a questionaire on COVID.
