Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - A Buffalo police officer was stabbed and a suspect was shot during a confrontation at Broadway and Liddell Street on Saturday afternoon, according to Deputy Police Commissioner Craig Macy.
Police say officers were alerted to the suspect by a civilian, as the man was carrying a box cutter and scissors.
During a struggle, one officer was stabbed in the back. Police used a taser on the suspect in an attempt to apprehend him, but Macy says the suspect kept hold of the weapons.
The officer who was stabbed then fired at the suspect, according to Macy, striking him in the torso and hip.
Both men were taken to Erie County Medical Center, where their injuries were not considered life-threatening.
The incident was captured on officers’ body cameras. It will be reviewed by city and police officials.
