Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - Buffalo police have made the arrest of a Buffalo man connected to a shooting that took place over Fourth of July Weekend in the city's East Side neighborhood.
At approximately 12:38 a.m. on July 5, officers from C District responded to a shooting call at 732 Glenwood Avenue. Three victims – a 22-year-old male, a 35-year-old female, and a 51-year-old female – all sustained non-life-threatening gunshot wounds in the incident.
Following the violence of the weekend, Buffalo Police detectives conducted multiple comprehensive investigations into that night’s perpetrators.
A suspect was taken into custody on Aug. 18 in connection with the Glenwood Avenue shooting. A search warrant was subsequently conducted in the 100 block of Lafayette Avenue, where a firearm and a high capacity magazine were recovered. The firearm, a Taurus G3C, has since been confirmed to be a weapon that discharged on July 5.
32-year-old Mark Hawkins has been charged with the following:
- One count of Assault in the First Degree (Class B felony);
- One count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree (Class C felony);
- One count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree (Class D felony);
- One count of Reckless Endangerment in the First Degree (Class D felony).
More charges may be forthcoming in this case.
Investigations remain ongoing into the other shooting incidents that also occurred over Fourth of July Weekend in the city.
