Buffalo Police recover rifles, cocaine in July 14 search warrant

The 43-year-old suspect was arraigned Friday morning on six counts of four different charges

Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - The Buffalo Police Department announced on Friday the findings of a search warrant conducted Thursday on Heussy Avenue.

Police recovered a loaded M4/AR-15 style rifle, 10 additional rifles, more than half a kilogram of cocaine, and $4,600 cash. One of the rifles recovered during Thursday's search warrant was an illegal weapon.


The search warrant was conducted by the Buffalo Police Intelligence Unit

43-year-old Daryl Voigt of Buffalo was arraigned Friday morning before Buffalo City Court Judge Carrie Phillips on the following offenses:

- One count of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the First Degree (Class "A-I" felony)
- One count of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree (Class "B" felony)
- One count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree (Class "C" violent felony)
- Three counts of Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia in the Second Degree (Class "A" misdemeanors)

Voigt, who is an employee in the City of Buffalo Department of Public Works, is accused of possessing the narcotics with intent to sell. Investigators also allegedly found a digital scale and packaging materials.

The defendant is scheduled to return to court on Friday, Aug. 26 at 9:30 a.m. ET for a felony hearing. Prosecutors requested that the defendant be held without bail, but he was released under supervision.

If convicted of the highest charge, Voigt faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.
