VIDEO: Buffalo Police release body cam footage from taser incident
Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - In graphic body camera footage released by Buffalo Police Tuesday, an officer uses his taser to subdue a suspect in a foot pursuit who was evading police and federal law enforcers. (Video above, and we warn it's graphic in nature)
"Get on the ground, I will tase you," the officer shouts to the suspect who was struggling with police on the ground. "Taser, taser, taser," the officer shouts before administering the charge.
The incident occurred Thursday morning at West Utica and Brayton Streets when Buffalo Police was working in concert with U.S. Marshalls in apprehending a suspect wanted in connection with an indictment on rape charges in Niagara County.
The pursuit, at one point, led to the rooftops in the area and the suspect continued to evade officers and jumped from the roof.
Officers used a taser on the suspect, who suffered a leg injury and is now facing multiple charges stemming from the incident in Buffalo and the Niagara County charges.
A loaded handgun was recovered from the scene during the arrest.
"I think the taser was used as designed," said Gramaglia at a briefing Tuesday afternoon. "Nobody was injured other than the defendant by his own means from jumping off of the garage...that's a successful outcome."
