Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - Buffalo Pro Soccer has narrowed their search down to three sites for a brand new soccer stadium, however, they may need additional funds if they decide to build it in Downtown Buffalo.

Buffalo Pro Soccer President Peter Marlette Jr. says building the stadium in the old Buffalo News parking lot space along Scott Street would be the best option.

"One key consideration is that building downtown would require public investment, whereas other potential locations could be developed primarily through private funding," stated Marlette Jr.

Marlette Jr. says a stadium there would help further develop a sports corridor downtown with KeyBank Center and Harborcenter already close by.

"You've also got the proximity to the hotels. It's a venue that people from around Western New York and then Southern Ontario are accustomed to coming to for pro sports with the Sabres, Canisius hockey, whatever it may be. So that's very attractive," he said.

As of now, the plan has not changed, and they expect the stadium to be built and ready for the public by March 2026.

"We remain committed to starting play in the 2026 USL Championship season, as we continue our ambitious site selection and construction process," Marlette Jr. said.
