
Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - With longtime President Phil Rumore retiring after 42 years serving the Buffalo Teachers Federation (BTF), the union released the results of a run off election on Tuesday with a new President set to take over effective July 1.
Members of the BTF have voted Richard Nigro as the next President of the teachers union, as he received 68.2% of the votes over opponent Marc Bruno.

Serving as Nigro's Vice President in the BTF will be Melinda MacPherson-Sullivan.
It was shortly before the final votes of approval for the newest teachers contract with the Buffalo Public School District that Rumore announced he was stepping away as President of the BTF.
"I am confident your future is secure," wrote Rumore in a letter that was sent back on April 19. "Thank you for all that you do for our students and each other, and also for your support and encouragement through our often difficult times ... and for the honor, yes honor, of being your President for over 40 years."
