Buffalo woman charged with animal cruelty
Buffalo Police Department

Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - Buffalo police made an arrest this week in connection with a case of animal cruelty.

Police were called to a home on Wednesday on West Ferry at the request of Buffalo Animal Control. Officials say they removed four dogs and 18 cats from the home they say had deplorable living conditions. This included no clean food or drinking water available for the animals in the residence, because of the abundance of animal excrement present. Most surfaces, including beds, were covered in feces.

The animals were taken to the City of Buffalo Animal Shelter, where they will undergo medical evaluations.

Paule Montanez, 52, of Buffalo has been charged 22 counts of failing to provide proper food and drink to an impounded animal, a misdemeanor.

Police add a minor had previously stayed in the residence. Child Advocacy Unit detectives immediately began an investigation and Child Protective Services were notified.

The investigation remains ongoing and further charges may be filed.
